Golf Course Condition Report
April 21, 2008

After a very wet beginning to the month of April, we have had plenty of sun and warm temperatures in the past seven days.  The golf course has dried out nicely and with the warmer temperatures the grass has started to grow.

There are a number of little projects going on this week.  First will be getting the irrigation system up and running.  Second, our contractor has been selected for the stump grinding and he will be out here starting on them Wednesday afternoon. Weather permitting he should have them all ground up by the end of this coming weekend.  We will then clean up the shavings and fill the holes with soil and then either place sod or put seed on them depending on how close they are to being in play.  This week I will also be putting a growth regulator on the greens to reduce the amount of seed heads from the poa annua that is in our greens.  The small chipping green closest to practice tee will be my test plot as I will only spray half of it to see what kind of control we get.

If you have been out playing, you may have noticed on some of the greens near the collars that they look scalped. The reason for that is over the years when people mowed the greens they didn’t mow all the way to the edge of the green and allowed that grass to get to collar height.  I am just trying to get them to their original dimensions.  Spring is the time to do that and that discoloration should only last a couple of weeks.

Well that’s it for now.  Spring seems to have finally sprung, so look forward to seeing you out on the golf course.  If you have any questions about these topics or any other, feel free to contact me at the office (738-6874) or via email at bobomakowski@yahoo.com.
