Golf Course Condition Report
April 14, 2008

Hello everybody. The 2008 golfing season is sure taking its time getting going this season.  High temperatures have consistently been in the upper 30’s and low 40’s which has taken the grass quite a while to break its dormancy.  In the last week (April 7-13) we have received over 1.5” of rainfall.  The golf course is extremely wet, but it is playable by walking.  We were able to get the greens, tees and fairways cut once before the rain, and everything is starting to green up nicely.

We have a couple of projects on the books for this upcoming season.  First would be the removal of about 95 stumps that are out on the golf course.  Over the years it looks like many trees have died, fallen over or they were cut down and the stumps were left behind.  I am currently in the process of selecting somebody to come in and grind these down so we can clean up the shavings, fill the holes with soil and depending on how close they are to being in play, I will either put sod over the top of them or seed them.

Once that project is completed we will start looking at our tees and begin the process of leveling many of them.  Many of them have settled over the years, and we will start by picking off the worst ones first.

I would like to extend a big “thank you” to all of the “work bees” and the high school golf team members who came out to the golf course at the beginning of April.  They did a tremendous job raking and picking up sticks and were able to make it all the way around the golf course in a single day.  Thank you very much everybody!

Well that is it for now.  I look forward to seeing those of you that I have already met and meeting those of you whom I have not yet met.  If there are any questions about these or any other topics feel free to give me a call in the office or you can email me at bobomakowski@yahoo.com.

I am looking forward to a great golfing season, we just need Mother Nature to turn the thermostat up a little bit.
